I have been battling with my own mental illnesses since I was in sixth grade. When it first started, I was too afraid to reach out to anyone about what I was going through, because I knew nothing about what it was I was going through in the first place. I didn't realize that I was legitimatly ill until freshman year of high school when I was diagnosed with clinical depression, anxiety disorder, and ADHD. I am in my last year of high school now. From time to time, I still feel myself struggling, but I can say with certainty that I am in a much better place now than I was before I got help. For me, that's why this film's topic is so important to me. I want to start a dialogue around the subject of mental illness and stop avoiding something that is all too prevelent in today's society. I want more people to understand that mental illness is not something to be ashamed of. It doesn't make a person evil or crazy, and it can be treated. More than anything, I want all of the people who have been suffering in silence for years to know that they are not alone in their struggle. Help is out there, people just need to know how to find it.

Mental health was always a part of my family. My dad always kept a close eye on my brother and I as he himself is a mental health professional, but he never took note of how bad my illnesses got. Despite attempting to be vocal on the matter, as a minor I couldn't receive the help I noticed I needed. That's why it's so important to me that the importance and benefits of mental health and seeking any needed treatment be noted. I have been under the care of health professionals for a short amount of time, but the effects are visible. There is hope for everyone.
